Child Support Is Calculated as a Proportion of Net Income
Child support is determined by net income and the number of children involved. For one child, child support is 20 percent of net income; two children, 25 percent; three children, 30 percent; four children, 35 percent; five children, 40 percent; six or more children, 45 percent.
Medical care is not included in child support. The non-custodial parent is responsible for covering insurance costs for the children.
Visitation, the amount of time spent with children and the amount of money spent on children has no effect on child support. The court can lower child support under certain conditions, including being out of work or on disability. Child support can also be affected if the non-custodial parent has other child support obligations.
