Nacogdoches Woman Killed in Hit and Run, 1 Arrested

Most states, including Texas, impose a legal duty upon drivers to stop, identify themselves and render aid where possible when involved in a motor vehicle accident. A suspect in a recent hit and run accident was tracked by police after allegedly fleeing the scene. One life was lost in the tragic incident.

A 54-year-old woman was walking with her husband when events took a sudden turn for the worse on a recent Thursday evening. The couple was strolling southbound along a local street in Nacogdoches. A truck struck the woman, and the driver reportedly left the scene of the accident. Though the woman’s husband was unharmed, she was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Sadly, the woman was pronounced dead after arriving at the medical facility. Police conducted a search for the driver of the truck. A 21-year-old male was eventually apprehended and charged with failure to stop and render aid in an accident involving a fatality.

Hit and Run Accident Victims can Seek Financial Compensation with the Help of an Attorney

The accused in the hit and run accident now faces a second degree felony. In Texas, such charges carry the potential for a two to 20 year prison term, as well as up to $10,000 in fines. Legal professionals with experience in personal injury and/or wrongful death claims are available to offer consultation to anyone who has been injured by a hit and run driver, including the surviving family of a deceased victim. Evidence used in a criminal proceeding arising out of the same accident may be of use in a related civil proceeding in attempting to establish financial liability for any monetary damages sustained.
