What Does the Jones Act Do?
The Jones Act is a federal law that gives injured seamen the right to sue their employers when the employer’s bad actions caused the injury. The Jones Act also gives this same right to the surviving families of seamen who were killed in the course of maritime service. It reimburses injury victims for the harm they experienced while on the job.
The rights apply to seamen on oil tankers, container ships, offshore supply boats, cruise ships, barges and other watercraft on brown water or blue water, in the Gulf of Mexico or in more distant international waters.
It can be difficult to understand your rights under the Jones Act, but an experienced League City Jones Act lawyer such as Larry Tylka can explain matters to you. At the Tylka Law Firm, we take the time to talk with you about legal action after an injury on a boat or oil rig.
